Mt. Gilboa and the Dead Sea fault valley

The Dead Sea fault valley is one of the most beautiful places to visit. It cuts through the rugged topography and lays below the sea level. We spent several days covering the western shoulder of the valley, descending to the Jordan valley. Here are some pictures.

Menashe hills to the Mediterranean coast

DSC_2212After two dusty days, the rain cleared the air and created the best conditions for riding. 20 degrees, almost no wind…and a lot of mud. Sometimes the mud was so thick that the wheels refused to turn. We set out for two days in the field, crossing the southern flank of Mt. Carmel and Menashe hills. Previous geological studies indicate that this relaxing chalky/limestone/flint Eocene landscape covers one of the largest volcanic bodies in the region. DSC_2214.jpg

Something went wrong with the car, and we had to fix it. It didn’t take long, and we continued to collect data in the eastern Galilee, on the southern slopes of Giv’at Hamore. A remnant of a volcano, about 13.5 million years old.

On the second day, we covered the slopes of Menashe hills. Starting with a morning ride under heavy rain, towards Yizrael valley in the north. No pictures from there. Just a sincere effort to survive the descent. When the day cleared, we went back to the water divide at the top of the hill and descended from Kibbutz Dalia all the way to Cesarea, about 30 km ride.
